Choosing the right pet tag for your dogs and cats

If you've been checking out dog & cat groups on Facebook, you would have seen the big jump in the number of members in the last years.

With the growing number of pet owners, we thought of coming up with a list of things to check out when getting your dogs and cats their own pet tags.

First things first though, let me tell you how important it is for your fur babies to have a tag. Here's a little story from a pet owner herself that was shared on our wall:

"I've bought 3 tags from you and their all great! When my gate broke and 2 of the three dogs wandered out, they were later found by a kind man who checked their tags. I got a call while I was out of the country and my two furry babies were returned home. If we didn't have these tags, my dogs could've been lost forever."
Now, you may be thinking it's about time to get your dog or cat a pet tag.

Here are some things to check out to make sure you get exactly what your pet needs & that you get your money's worth for your purchase.

  1. Check out the design. Make sure there are no pointed edges that could scratch or even get your pet wounded.
  2. Ask about the material used. Most commonly used metal for pet tags is aluminum. Aluminum is a soft metal that can be bent by even the smaller breeds. And for the big breeds, it's child's play to fold it up & break it.Your best bet is to have a tag in brass or stainless steel as these are hard metals
  3. Sizes. Make sure to get one that's perfect for your dog's breed & size.
  4. Do not go for colored tags. Of course they're cute! But a little rough playing by our fur balls will get the colors scratched & that's not exactly cute anymore.
  5. Check how the pet tag would hang on your pet's collar. Would it be hanging by a ring? Is there a possibility that the ring opens up & the tag then falls off? Would be good to be mindful of this.
  6. Do they offer an after service? Always a good after thought with anything we purchase. When repairs are offered, then you get more value for your money.
When we were designing our pet tags for Pet Tag World, we had these pet owners concerns in mind. So, we took every effort to address each of this and the result is this:
  • Pet Tags made of thick brass, stainless steel or a combination of both. Even big breed dogs cannot break this metals
  • A wide range of sizes to suit every breed & size. We do not use pre made pet tags. Instead, we cut our own metals so this allows us to customize sizes accordingly.
  • A bail riveted into the tag to make sure the tag never falls off from your dog's collar.
  • Stainless Steel rings are used to hang the tags so there will be no tarnishing or rusting
  • Repairs & replacement of parts are accepted at minimal costs

2016 is the year for everything handmade

Let 2016 be the year for everything handmade!

They said we must claim it - and so, i just did!

Here's my 2016 wishlist for everyone into handmade:

1. That handmade be equated to good quality work

2. That more Filipinos learn to appreciate the talent, time and effort put into each piece by buying at fair market price.

3. That being a crafts person or artisan allows us to earn enough for it to be our main source of livelihood and not just a side job

(image lifted from google)

4. That each crafter learns his or her value as an artist and price their works accordingly

5. That every crafter learns to respect the works of fellow crafters.

6. That crafters from different media continue to hone their craft & be able to elevate their works to meet international standards

7. That more Filipino works be recognized & be able to break into the international scene.

Personalized Wedding Unity Coins

So, I decided to make my Christmas day extra special by starting to blog again. I know that may sound a wee bit weird to some. But for working moms like me, this is one of those rare days when the online shop is not abuzz with messages & I have a long weekend to look forward to.

Because December now has the most weddings being held in the Philippines nowadays, I thought I'd feature our personalized wedding unity coins. These coins are also referred to us arrhae or arras.

For a little background on arrhae's, I searched Google & found this on Wikipedia: The thirteen wedding unity coins symbolize Jesus and the twelve apostles. The exchange of the coins represent the groom's promise to provide for his family, and the bride's trust in his ability to do so.

From , one can find a more extensive explanation. Apart from the symbolism mentioned in Wikipedia, this site also says that the number 13 represents Christ and his 12 apostles. Another popular belief is that the thirteen coins represent the 12 lunar cycles of a year, and the thirteenth coin symbolizes the couple's honeymoon.

Having unity coins is a long held tradition in Filipino weddings & is definitely here to stay. When a friend suggested we do a personalized version of the coins, we just thought it was such a great idea!

We initially did the classic unity coins with the symbols & the name for each on one side of the coin & the couples names or initials & wedding date on the other side of the coin.

Later on, we got requests for a travel themed unity coin set where one side of the coin had the more famous landmark in a particular city or country. Couples would usually list the cities or countries where they have traveled together or those on their list of places to visit.

Both designs can be done in either polished brass, for those who want a shiny gold look to it or in antiqued brass for a vintage look.

For this year, we hope to do more designs. We're hoping to do a victorian theme, a shabby chic theme and I forgot for now what else we have discussed. Should you have your own ideas or peg pics, feel free to PM us on our FB page.
